Tasmania 2026

13 intrepid WHOs braved the Tasmanian Challenge

Our top WHO at the Oz Champs was Justine de Remy de Courcelles, with a consistent top-level performance and who placed third overall in W14A only 16 seconds behind first. Achieving 3rd in the Sprint and crossing the line in second place in the Middle and Long Distance events.

Tin Yang Nathan Chang led the M12A field at the Day 1 Sprint  Championships.

Several Club runners did well, coming in in the top echelon of their fields, but there was an overall indicator that the Club needs to organise more navigation training as only six of our team qualified for an overall result for the three days with seven losing out through "mispunching".

Club of the Year 2025

ONSW President, Robyn Pallas, Presents the Club of the Year Award to Western and Hills Secretary & Public Officer, Emmanuelle Convert, at the 2025 Xmas 5-Days wrap-up.

From the citation

Western Hills Orienteers (WHO) demonstrated outstanding performances in the MetrO League, securing victory in three out of six divisions across 2024 and 2025. This success is underpinned by the club's substantial investment in nurturing junior talent and its collaborative efforts with Bold Horizons in the Schools Orienteering Series (SOS). WHO has shown significant improvement in the State League, achieving second place in the club point score. The club continues to support and develop a talented group of junior members, many of whom represented NSW at the Australian Orienteering Championships (AOC) and Youth Championships.

WHO has successfully organised State League, MetrO League, and Summer Series events, and also assists Bold Horizons with its Saturday Orienteering Series. The club maintains a strong membership base and has an active presence on social media platforms. The club is proactive in developing new maps and updating existing ones, ensuring ongoing support for its members and the broader orienteering community.

President's Award 2025

Robyn Pallas, Presents the President's Award to Western and Hills Child Safety Officer, Saffron Sweeney.

From the citation

The 2025 President’s Award is presented to a dedicated individual who has invested countless hours in supporting junior athletes within our sport. Saffron's commitment and leadership have made a significant impact on both the school and the broader junior community.

For several years, she has served as the school’s team manager, overseeing all aspects of team coordination for the Australian Schools Championships. Her organizational skills and attention to detail have ensured that the team is consistently prepared and represented at these prestigious events. Saffron has also taken charge of coordinating the junior teams’ catering efforts during our State League events. Her dedication to ensuring there is a good team available has made this a successful fundraiser for the Juniors. In 2025, Saffron also organized and coordinated the National Junior Camp held at Heathcote Scout Camp, ensuring that a comprehensive and effective coaching program was delivered.
